Thanks Dave for the very well thought out response.

(1) I agree with you that the death of the marine you play as was very well done and served to drive home the nuclear bomb attack and build enmity between the player and the villain. I'll have to disagree though that it made you feel heroic. You are hero in the sense that you are attempting to stop this mad man, but Infinity Ward does little to separate or call that character from out from any of the other Marines.

(2) You are absolutely correct on this point. I played through the game on the Regular (suggested )difficulty and not on veteran. It was my mistake during the write up and has since been corrected. Thanks!

(3) Regarding the achievements, again the confusion is my fault. On regular mode I would have liked to have been given achievements for completing each level. This is especially true when Regular is the suggested difficulty and the mode that the majority of your players are going to go through the game with.

Thanks again for the response.

Very fair assessment. I was expecting to hear a lot of bitching, and was glad you were able to praise them game.

(1) To be fair, the main character of CoD4 is Soap. And the death of the US character wasn't because he was unimportant... in fact, his death was quite heroic. I thought it was very well done and made the point that nuclear devastation is complete nicely.

(2) I disagree about enemy gunfire on veteran being not powerful enough. It often takes you out in one shot, usually requiring two.

(3) Completely agree thet the grenade death radius should have a falloff.

(4) I don't understand the achievement comment at the end... you DO get an achievement after every level on Veteran. I would, howveer, like to see some achievements after every level on the other difficulties as well (I believe CoD4 had this). Not everyone wants to submit themselves to the punishment of Veteran mode. I believe this is one of the reasons so many people rip on this game. They don't really want to be playing veteran mode; they just feel forced into it because you don't get many achievements in the other modes. I would say ideally they should have a set of low point achievements for every level on any mode, and a higher valued set for completing missions on hardened. Maybe a large final achievement for completing the game on veteran.

The single player is total shit. The multiplayer is just CoD4 with older weapons, and slightly better maps.

If my memory serves, the American Marine you are playing dies right after the nuclear bomb that takes out your helicopter crashes. It isn't at the end of the game, but it is about 3/4 of the way through CoD4.
